HERCULES IN NEW YORK was Arnold Schwarzenegger's first film role.  Made in 1969, totally on location in New York City, the world champion bodybuilder finally fulfilled his dream to be in a Hercules movie.  As a youngster, he had seen many of the Italian sword-and-sandal epics starring Steve Reeves, Reg Park and a variety of other muscle men in this very popular genre of film from the late 50s and early 60s.

The resulting film was not met with an overwhelming response from the public.  In fact, the company that produced HERCULES IN NEW YORK went out of business shortly after the film's initial release in 1970.  Because of Arnold's very heavy Austrian accent, his voice was replaced by another actor in the film's 1970 version. In 1982, the film was re-discovered, and luckily all the related materials, including the original camera negative, sound tracks, art work, stills and other materials, were in excellent condition.  The film was meticulously restored by Filmpartners, Inc. under the supervision of Ron Merk.  The same year marked the beginning of the home video explosion. The film was a tremendous success all around the world and continues generate income for its owners to this day. In 2001 Arnold's real voice was restored to the film.  This version is now available on VHS and DVD from Lions Gate Home Entertainment.

Premiere Pictures represents the present copyright owners of HERCULES IN NEW YORK and is the only company with the right to sell or license the film, except for certain authorized distributors, and subject to agreements signed by previous owners.  Due to the death of one of the company members, Premiere has decided to sell the film in a special auction to take place on e-Bay, under the auspices of the on-line auction agency Kompolt, which was retained to manage the listing. Kompolt is the highly regarded "go-to" online auction agency for creating successful, high value, and high profile promotional and charity auctions for top brand companies and nonprofits. For more information, go to www.kompolt.com.
Kompolt will pre-qualify bidders. No bidding will be permitted without being pre-qualified by Kompolt. The auction will take place beginning on November 7 and ending on November 17, 2006.
Twenty-five per cent (25%) of the proceeds will benefit The Metro Theatre Center Foundation and fund The Chris Holter Legacy Awards, which supports the work and careers of young and first-time filmmakers, a number of San Francisco Bay Area film festivals, and the establishment of an independent film and live event theater venue in San Francisco.
